How did you become an education consultant?
I have worked in independent day and boarding schools in the US and England for more than 10 years as an English teacher, coach, dorm head, recruiter, and admission officer. Being at home full-time with two children enabled me to focus on my consulting career. In my role as Associate Director of Admission at a boarding school in NJ, I worked with Georgia Bennett and BER clients to enroll them in school there. Now with BER I enjoy working directly with families to assist them in securing the best school fit for their children in locales all over the world.
What do you like most about your profession?
I love to help children and families find a solution to the key question: where are we (the kids) going to go to school? The families we work with at BER put their children's education first when relocating. It is really wonderful to work with people who truly value education and it is challenging and rewarding to quickly determine the unique needs for each child and find a place that meets those requirements. Education in the US and abroad is always changing which is why my colleagues and I stay current on the latest educational research and trends. The opportunity to work with Georgia and to be a part of this vibrant team of international educational experts is an honor and a great fit for me.
What types of jobs have you had in the past?
I taught English (grades 6-8) and Latin (grade 6), served as Associate Director of Admissions, lived as a dorm parent in?boarding schools in the US and abroad. I worked as a recruiter and assistant placement counselor for a teacher placement agency helping candidates find teaching and administrative jobs in independent schools. I have coached middle and upper school students in soccer, basketball, track and cross country.
Have you lived, worked or traveled abroad?
I lived on the West Coast of Ireland for one year when I was nine years old and my father was on sabbatical from a Pennsylvania independent school. I lived in England while teaching at an international school outside of London. While living in England, I traveled extensively in Europe with my husband and also visited Central Africa. I led week long trips with thirty middle school students to Southern Spain and the South of France.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy hiking and camping and spending time at the beach. I recently camped out with my five year old son for the first time. I love to travel, listen to live music, read fiction, and cook. Spending time
with my children and family tops the list.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I love the work I am doing. As a former teacher, admission officer, and now a parent, I feel like this is the ideal job for me.
